Welcome to Digital Technology.
Let's find out who's in the room.

Before we get into networks, code and cybersecurity, we want to know a bit about you — and you'll pick up some course vocabulary on the way. Ten minutes, on your own device, no login needed.

Your digital life, checked off

Tap any card that's true for you. Each one flips to show a quick fact and tells you which bit of the WJEC AS course it connects to. There's no wrong answer — this is just an icebreaker.

Getting to know you

Now the bit your teacher actually reads. Answer in your own words — a couple of sentences is plenty for most of these. You can use the internet for the research questions.

Confidence: 3 / 5 — getting there

Pick one: programmer, network engineer, cyber security analyst, systems analyst, UX/UI designer, data analyst. A programmer writes, tests and fixes the code that tells a computer what to do — but that's only one job in the sector.

Try searching "UK tech sector value" or "graduate programmer salary UK." Naming your source (e.g. Tech Nation, ONS, a job site) is good academic practice — you'll need to do this in coursework too.

⚡ Challenge mode (optional — for anyone who finishes early)

Binary is base-2: only 0s and 1s. Each position is worth double the last (1, 2, 4, 8, 16...). We'll cover this properly in your first data representation lesson.
